Joining forces with Andreas Filias, Deputy Regional Governor of Agricultural Development of Western Greece, Petros Kokkalis, Member of the European Parliament and EU Climate Pact Ambassador, Evangelia Georgitsi, Communications Officer of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece and Coordinator of the Europe Direct Network, Angelos Rezos, CEO of Rezos Brands, and moderated by Argyris Demertzis, Journalist and Head of Ecopress, the main topics of discussion were the critical challenges and immense potential in the agricultural sector.
During the session, Mrs Alice Corovessi highlighted that European Union (EU) is essential in promoting green transition and addressing the challenges of agricultural development and climate change. She mentioned that the EU Climate Pact encourages active participation from citizens, organizations, and governments in actions that reduce carbon emissions, enhance sustainability, and foster environmental awareness. Furthermore, she noted that the EU boosts agricultural production’s resilience against extreme weather conditions and environmental degradation by spearheading initiatives and fostering collaboration. Notably, programmes such as Horizon Europe provide the necessary infrastructure and expertise for sustainable agricultural practices and innovative technologies, thereby ensuring a more secure and sustainable future for European agriculture. Mrs Corovessi concluded by emphasising that the EU Climate Pact’s initiatives, supported by networks like the Europe Direct offices, empower local communities and increase their participation in environmental programmes, leading the way towards a sustainable economy.
