Energy Poverty and Energy Communities

The phenomenon of energy poverty has been worsening in recent years even in the economically robust countries of Europe, while in Greece it is becoming a chronic social challenge.  The active participation of citizens, local authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises in energy saving and energy production is a basic prerequisite for the energy transition.

 

In this context and with a view to informing citizens, INZEB and the Sparta Institute organise the online event/discussion “Energy Poverty and Energy Communities” on Tuesday 12 July 2022 at 17.30 with the support of POWERPOOR and CONGREGATE projects.

 

The event will feature presentations and contributions from Alice Corovessi, Managing Director, INZEB, Anastasia Kanellopoulou, President of the Board of Directors, Institute of Sparta, Eleftheria Touloupaki, Architect Engineer, PhD Candidate AUTh, Scientific Associate, INZEB, Eleni Kanellou, Economist, PhD Candidate NTUA, Dr. George Kostakos, Executive Director FOGGS and Member, Institute of Sparta, Babis Panagakis, Member, Institute of Sparta.

 

Specifically, the topics to be presented and discussed at the event are:

  • Energy poverty and the negative effects of the phenomenon on the environment and the health and well-being of citizens. Presentation of the findings of the nationwide survey on citizens’ awareness of the phenomenon.
  • The POWERPOOR project and the tools to support citizens in tackling energy poverty.
  • Energy Communities as a tool for citizen engagement in the energy sector.
  • The GONGREGATE project. Presentation of examples of partnerships between local authorities and citizens to create Energy Communities.

The event will be held in Greek language.
