EU Climate Pact 3rd TV Broadcast: Just Transition

The third TV Broadcast for the EU Climate Pact, and the last before the summer vacations, took place yesterday on July 16th, 2024, on the topic of Just Transition. The invited experts were EU Climate Pact Ambassador Konstantina Togaridou, and European Commission’s Just Transition Expert, and Professor Nikos Panagiotou, School of Journalism and Mass Media Communications, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Together with the Broadcast’s moderators, EU Climate Ambassador Andreas Vassilopoulos and INZEB’s Managing Director and Country Coordinator for the EU Climate Pact Alice Corovessi, they explored how the European Green Deal aligns with Just Transition.

The panel examined how Just Transition ensures a fair and inclusive shift to a green economy, by addressing the needs of all communities and focusing on practical implementation, emphasising community involvement, sustainable job creation, and skill development. The experts showcased the crucial role that effective communication plays in this process, by raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and encouraging community participation. Furthermore, the Greek regions (Western Macedonia and the Peloponnese) in transition were presented, as well as the path towards CO2 emission reduction and climate neutrality by 2050.
