POWERINGCITIZENS

EmPOWERING Energy CITIZENship among energy poor people through joint energy actions

The POWERINGCITIZENS project is dedicated to empowering citizens who are disproportionately affected by energy poverty, particularly vulnerable groups such as single-parent households, elderly individuals, and underrepresented communities in both the EU and the Western Balkans. The project focuses on building the capacity of these groups, enabling them to actively participate in discussions about energy and climate policies and advocate for their rights.

Central to the project are several key activities designed to achieve these goals. The project organises interactive events, known as Energy Cafés, which provide a space for local citizens to engage with experts, discuss their energy challenges, and explore solutions collectively. These events are critical in fostering energy awareness and encouraging knowledge-sharing within communities. Another crucial project component involves capacity-building workshops, which deliver tailored training on energy rights, efficient energy use, and clean energy solutions. The workshops aim to build the confidence of marginalised citizens so they can make informed energy choices and advocate effectively for their rights during the clean energy transition.

The project also strongly emphasises involving young people in its initiatives, recognising their potential as agents of change. Youth-led activities and advocacy efforts focus on educating communities about sustainable practices and clean energy solutions. Additionally, the project establishes platforms for policy dialogue and co-creation, where citizens can engage directly with local authorities and policymakers to co-develop inclusive policies catering to energy-poor citizens’ needs and rights.

The POWERINGCITIZENS project is driven by a powerful vision. It envisions a future where energy-poor citizens are not just informed and empowered but also actively engaged in the transition to sustainable energy solutions. This vision guides the project’s every step and inspires stakeholders to work towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

The role of INZEB

INZEB, a key partner in the POWERINGCITIZENS project, plays a significant role in the project’s success. It is actively involved in all work packages and is responsible for implementing activities in Greece. INZEB coordinates training programmes, advisory services, and public engagement events to promote energy citizenship among vulnerable communities at a national level. This includes organising local training sessions and facilitating community-driven activities such as storytelling initiatives and advocacy efforts. Through its involvement, INZEB plays a vital role in ensuring that Greek communities are equipped to participate in and shape a fair and inclusive energy transition.
