The WISE Project is committed to addressing energy justice for women in Europe, focusing on those who are among the most marginalised groups. Single women, including elderly women, single mothers, and women of migrant and refugee backgrounds, face significant challenges related to the just and clean energy transition. Many of these women lack control over their living situations or the energy-consuming devices available to them. Some come from extreme poverty and are not aware of energy-efficient habits, struggling to provide basic needs for their families. These conditions undermine their fundamental rights to a dignified life, adequate services, and health, as protected by the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (CFREU) and the EU Pillar of Social Rights. Articles 23 and 24, particularly, emphasise women’s equality and children’s rights.
WISE is unwavering in its commitment to raising awareness about energy justice, enhancing knowledge among single women, and empowering them to participate in policy-making processes to address injustices actively. The project leverages existing resources and proven approaches to achieve these objectives, focusing on developing and disseminating content on just energy policies, energy-related rights, and wise energy use. Recognising that much of this content currently exists primarily in English, WISE translates it into additional languages and shares it through open-source platforms to maximise its reach and impact.
The project is expected to directly benefit approximately 140 single women through peer-to-peer learning, training opportunities, and active engagement in democratic processes related to energy policy. Through public events and targeted social media campaigns, the WISE Project aims to raise awareness of energy rights among 700-1000 EU citizens, amplifying its impact even further. Furthermore, the project will produce around 20 outputs designed to support other groups in implementing similar projects and formulating relevant policy recommendations at local and national levels.
To achieve these goals, WISE’s strategic approach includes several targeted Work Packages (WPs). These include national meetings for WISE Collectives, joint planning and collaboration events, and a Translate-a-thon to boost energy-rights literacy. Other key activities involve film screenings with panel debates, workshops on energy rights for single women, and “Energy Solidarity Days” to foster community action. Additional initiatives focus on storytelling workshops for activism and local/national presentation days to spread awareness and drive collective change.
The WISE Project envisions a sustainable future where single women are empowered to advocate for their energy rights, contributing to a fairer and more inclusive energy landscape in Europe.
The WISE project is funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV) by the European Union.
