INZEB, in its role as the European Climate Pact Country Coordinator in Greece, together with Ioannis Triantafyllakis, EU Climate Pact Ambassador and Mayor of Xiromero, the Municipality of Xiromero, and in collaboration with Europe Direct Western Greece, are organising a two-day climate event dedicated to one of the largest oak forests in the Balkans, the Valonia Oak Forrest of Xiromero, in Aetolia-Akarnania, Greece.
The event will take place on Friday, 22 May 2026, and Saturday, 23 May 2026, with the participation of elementary and secondary school students from the Fyties region.
Through interactive workshops, climate walks and open discussions, the event aims to raise collective awareness and mobilise the local community to protect one of the last remaining large oak forests in Europe.
Residents of all ages will take part in activities focusing on:
- Information on the environment and climate, and the impacts of climate change on daily life and nature
- Discussion on the importance of the Valonia Oak Forest
- Identifying the consequences of climate change and the challenges it creates for the local ecosystem and biodiversity
- The role and attitude of the local community
- The power of storytelling in mobilising climate action
- Recording citizens’ personal stories and memories of the forest
The event will be supported by the participation of EU Climate Pact Ambassadors, Marianna Rappou, Dimitris Kollias, and Maria Voutsina.
We look forward to this event, which brings together children and adults, explores the significance of the forest, and celebrates the power of memory and storytelling to inspire climate action.
