Participation in a Podcast on Citizens’ Climate Assemblies

INZEB is proud to feature the participation of it’s Managing Director, Alice Corovessi, in the podcast series by Eteron in collaboration with News 24/7 and the International Institute for Climate Change, where she delved into the topic of Citizens’ Climate Assemblies. With the coordination of Alexandra Politaki, a political scientist specialising in gender and environmental issues, they explored their importance and a possible implementation, in Greece in national or regional level.

The main part of the podcast was focused on existing examples of Citizens’ Climate Assemblies in European countries, like Poland and France, showcasing the results and the lessons learned in each case. They analysed the mechanisms, and the processes needed to organise Citizens’ Climate Assemblies, beginning with a group of citizens that is randomly selected to represent the population, who under the guidance of scientists and experts, discuss the selected topic and make policy proposals.

Alice Corovessi emphasised the importance of this initiative, which does not only support environmental goals, but also builds public support, and increases the likelihood of successful policy implementation, by fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership to the citizens participating in them.

INZEB’s Managing Director continues to advocate for on-the-ground solutions that connect citizens to climate action.
