On Thursday, 30 May 2021, INZEB actively participated as co-organiser in the SMAFIN National Roundtable on “Supporting the Implementation of Smart Financing for Energy Efficient Buildings in Greece”, held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy. The event brought together key national and European stakeholders to exchange views and practices on the financing mechanisms needed to accelerate energy renovations in residential, public, and tertiary sector buildings.
The roundtable featured a high-level opening plenary with contributions from the Minister of Environment and Energy, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, and major financial institutions. It was followed by three thematic parallel sessions focusing on:
- Financing renovation in residential buildings,
- Investment mechanisms for public buildings, and
- Energy efficiency auctions for tertiary sector companies.
As part of this national engagement, INZEB moderated a session on residential renovation, providing insights into the practical barriers homeowners face and policy recommendations to align financing tools with the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
This stakeholder discussion was also incorporated into the activities foreseen under INZEB’s 2024 engagement plan, contributing directly to the objectives of the ongoing project for promoting feasible renovation pathways. The dialogue supported the cross-sectoral collaboration goals and helped capture valuable perspectives for the final deliverables, including the multi-stakeholder briefing note outlined in KPI 7.
The event reinforced the importance of integrated planning, stakeholder alignment, and smart financing tools in achieving Greece’s 2030 and 2050 renovation targets.
