Regional Workshop – BENEFIT Project: Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings

The Bioeconomy and Environment Cluster of Western Macedonia – CluBE is organising a Regional Workshop aimed at addressing energy-saving strategies in public buildings. This workshop, taking place on Thursday 22 June 2023, 10:30 – 13:30 EEST, is a significant part of the BENEFIT project, which receives co-funding from the European Union and the National Resources of participating countries under the IPA-CBC Greece – Republic of North Macedonia 2014-2020 Cross-border Cooperation Programme. The event offers a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, both in-person and online, to promote energy efficiency in the public sector.

The workshop will commence with an overview of the BENEFIT project, entitled “Enhancing Energy Efficiency: Demonstrating in Public Buildings“. This initiative focuses on implementing pilot energy upgrades in public buildings to showcase the potential for energy savings and sustainability. The project’s aim is to create a framework for energy-efficient practices that can be replicated in various public buildings across the region. One of the highlights of the workshop will be the presentation of successful case studies. For instance, participants will learn about the pilot application of energy upgrades in the administration building of Thessaloniki, where various energy efficiency interventions have been implemented. The methodologies employed for mapping the public building stock and prioritising energy-saving interventions will also be shared, with practical examples from the pilot areas of the BENEFIT project.

The workshop agenda includes sessions on bioclimatic design and passive solar systems, presented by experts from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Product Design. This segment will shed light on the integration of sustainable design principles and showcase innovative solutions for energy-efficient buildings. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to explore smart tools for energy efficiency, as Eleftheria Touloupaki, member of the scientific team of INZEB, shares insights and practical applications of these technologies. She will speak about the Building Renovation Passports and will demonstrate the iBRoad2EPC Assistant. An essential aspect of the workshop will be discussions on the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. This initiative encourages the commitment of local authorities to address climate change and promote sustainable energy practices. The workshop will emphasise the integration of the Covenant’s objectives into Local Action Plans for Sustainable Energy and Climate. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how municipalities can enhance energy efficiency in their buildings through specific case studies, such as the energy upgrades of municipal buildings in the Prespes Municipality.

The Regional Workshop on Energy Saving in Public Buildings, organised as part of the BENEFIT project, promises to be a significant platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration. With a diverse agenda covering topics such as energy upgrades, bioclimatic design, smart tools, and the integration of sustainability commitments, the workshop aims to foster a regional approach to energy efficiency in public buildings. By bringing together stakeholders, experts, and practitioners, the event aims to generate innovative ideas, exchange best practices, and inspire concrete actions towards a greener and more sustainable future for the region.

The event will be held in Greek language.
