INZEB we will be participating in the upcoming policy dialogue at the European Parliament as part of the POWERPOOR project. The event, which will take place on March 29, 2023, from 13:00 to 15:00 CET, aims to address the issue of energy poverty in the coastal areas of Mediterranean countries, with a specific focus on women and women-led households.
The challenge of energy poverty in coastal areas of Mediterranean countries comes with several specific features, including the fact that during the summer season, energy poverty appears due to poor access to adequately cooled dwellings. Research has shown that energy poverty has significant impacts on people’s health, including anxiety, stress, and depression, as well as increased physical problems and mortality rates.
The EmpowerMed project, which is part of the Horizon 2020 programme, aims to tackle energy poverty in the Mediterranean coastal areas and help improve the health of people in these regions, with a particular focus on women. The project has already empowered over 4000 households affected by energy poverty in Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Albania, enabling them to manage their energy consumption and improve their access to appropriate energy resources.
The policy dialogue will provide an opportunity to align policies and measures to tackle energy poverty, improve people’s health, and provide stronger support for women. As a partner in the POWERPOOR project, INZEB will contribute to the discussion with insights, sharing opinions and knowledge, based on our extensive experience in the field.
At INZEB, we are committed to addressing energy poverty and promoting sustainable energy solutions that benefit all members of society, regardless of gender or socioeconomic status. We believe that empowering women and women-led households to take action against energy poverty is crucial in achieving this goal.
We look forward to participating in this important policy dialogue and working with other stakeholders to develop effective solutions that improve the lives of those affected by energy poverty in Mediterranean coastal areas.
