As part of the POWERINGCITIZENS project, we are glad to share the local narration video, produced as an outcome of the three Energy Cafés organised in Kastoria, Heraklion, and Chania.
These events aimed to initiate participatory group discussions and collective reflection on the phenomenon of energy poverty, using group-based dialogue and tailor-made questionnaires. The interviews conducted focused on participants’ perceptions of energy use and energy vulnerability, energy costs, housing conditions, climate change, and energy justice.
In the local narration video, participants discuss energy vulnerability and its close relationship with high energy prices, poor housing conditions, and climate change. They highlight the significant consequences this has on their everyday lives and future planning, while also reporting negative impacts on health and well-being.
Finally, interviewees describe the actions they believe are needed to address energy vulnerability, prioritising the reduction of energy costs, raising public awareness, improving household energy performance, supporting tenants, and strengthening local collective structures.
At a time when energy issues are increasingly affecting citizens’ living conditions, these testimonies offer valuable insights into understanding the lived experience of energy poverty while also empowering people and communities towards a fair and inclusive transition.
