Τhe event “Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility in Greece’s Tourism Destinations”, is organised by INZEB, in its capacity as the European Climate Pact Country Coordinator in Greece, and co-organised and supported by the European Commission Representation in Greece. It will take place on Thursday, 10 September 2026, 19:00 – 21:00, at Pavilion 10 of the European Commission Representation in Greece, during the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair.
A tourist destination is not truly sustainable if not everyone can reach it and move around within it easily, safely, and without barriers, or if travel places a burden on the environment and the daily lives of local communities.
Through two thematic discussions, the event will examine current challenges and proposed solutions, with the participation of representatives from public institutions, the research community, the tourism sector, and the business community.
The event will also feature an interactive session using the En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator. The audience will test policy and technological interventions in the sectors of transportation, energy, and land use and will see in real time how their combination affects global emissions and projected temperature rises.
At the heart of it all is a common goal: more sustainable, accessible, and inclusive tourist destinations throughout Greece.

Welcome, presentation of the event’s objective, and a brief overview of the role of the European Climate Pact in Greece.

The discussion will examine the current gaps at the intersection of tourism, mobility and accessibility in Greece. It will consider the entire visitor journey, from reaching a destination to moving within it, and explore how the same mobility challenges affect residents and workers.

In an interactive simulation, the audience will select and test policy and technological interventions in sectors such as transportation, energy, and land use. En-ROADS will show in real time how individual interventions and their combinations affect global emissions and projected temperature increases.

The discussion will examine the proposed solutions, the infrastructure and technologies required to improve mobility and accessibility in tourist destinations, and the conditions needed for their effective implementation. It will also explore the barriers that must be addressed, the roles of different stakeholders, and how effective solutions can be replicated and scaled up.
