In Memory, We Act – Remembering the Human Cost of the Climate Crisis in Greece

On the occasion of the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis, INZEB, the EU Climate Pact Country Coordinator for Greece, is organising a 90-minute online event on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, from 15.30 to 17.00 EEST that brings together diverse voices from across Greece to honour those who have suffered and lost their lives due to climate-related disasters. As climate impacts intensify across Europe and the globe, Greece has faced devastating wildfires, floods, and extreme weather events that have left deep emotional, social, and ecological scars.

The event’s objective is to create a space of collective remembrance, illuminating the human dimensions of the climate crisis. From affected communities and mental health professionals to environmental scientists and policy makers, speakers will explore how climate disasters shape grief, resilience, civic engagement, and the urgency of climate action.

The event aims to:

  • Foster a shared sense of remembrance and solidarity,
  • Raise awareness of the social and emotional toll of climate disasters, and
  • Inspire intergenerational engagement toward a more resilient and compassionate future.

This commemorative gathering is not only a moment of mourning, but also one of mobilisation and connection.

The event will be held:

  • in Greek (YouTube) – no registration needed
  • with simultaneous English interpretation if you watch the Webinar in Zoom – register here.
