Climate Policy Breakfast: Climate Change, Tourism and Resilience in Greece

INZEB, in its capacity as the European Climate Pact Country Coordinator in Greece, in collaboration with European Climate Pact Ambassador Ioannis Pappas, is organising the Climate Policy Breakfast “Climate Change, Tourism and Resilience in Greece”, to be held on Friday, 29 May 2026, in Athens.

The Climate Policy Breakfast is designed as a closed, high-level policy dialogue that brings together a limited number of invited participants from the tourism sector, local and regional authorities, public institutions, research organisations, civil society, and relevant professional and institutional stakeholders, including European Climate Pact Ambassadors.

This discussion will provide a structured forum for strategic exchange on the growing impacts of climate change on the Greek tourism sector and the emerging challenges related to destination resilience, sustainability, adaptation capacity, and governance. The dialogue will explore how climate risks, environmental pressures and the climate transition are reshaping tourism systems, destinations and local economies across Greece.

Particular emphasis will be placed on issues related to climate exposure and territorial inequalities between destinations, adaptation challenges and implementation barriers, data and knowledge gaps, sustainability and competitiveness trade-offs, as well as governance and coordination challenges among tourism stakeholders and public authorities.

The Climate Policy Breakfast will take place under the Chatham House Rule and will not include formal presentations or public statements. The format is designed to encourage open exchange, reflection and dialogue among participants with different institutional, professional and sectoral perspectives.

A short, anonymous discussion-mapping report summarising the main thematic reflections emerging from the dialogue will be prepared following the event.

You can find the concept note, including the thematic discussion framework for the Climate Policy Breakfast here.

Participation is by invitation only.
