Renovate Europe, in collaboration with several organisations, is co-organising an online webinar focused on addressing the skills challenges in the building sector, hosted on the Build Up platform, Wednesday 7 June 2023, at 14:00 – 16:00 CEST.
Silvia Rezessy, a Policy Officer from DG ENER B3, will kick off the webinar with a presentation on the skills required for building decarbonisation. As new policy instruments such as the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) come into effect, it is crucial to ensure that building professionals possess the necessary skills to implement and enforce these regulations effectively.
Amandine de Coster-Lacourt, Project Adviser at CINEA D1.3, will delve into the Build Up Skills initiative. This program aims to bridge the gap between the available and needed professionals in the building sector through education, training, upskilling, and reskilling efforts. By fostering EU-national coordination, the initiative strives to enhance the practical application of policy and financing instruments while addressing the skills challenges.
Dragomir Tzanev, Executive Director of EnEffect, will present the Bulgarian BUILD UP Skills road-mapping project. This case study will provide insights into best practices for designing effective training programs tailored to the specific needs of a national context. The project serves as an exemplar for other countries seeking to develop their own skills roadmaps.
The highlight of the webinar will be a panel discussion moderated by Alice Corovessi, Vice-Chair President of the Renovate Europe Campaign. The panelists will include Anita Derjanecz (Managing Director, REHVA), Fernando Sighcos Jiménez (Secretary General, EBC), Pär Lundström (Senior Skills & Policy Advisor, Installatörsföretagen, GCP Europe / EuropeOn), and Sue Arundale (Director General, EFCA). This esteemed panel will provide their perspectives and experiences on the skills challenges in the building sector. The discussion will cover various topics, including the attractiveness of the sector, gender and age dimensions, and the integration of new digital technologies.
The online webinar on skills challenges in the building sector promises to be a valuable platform for policy makers, industry stakeholders, and building professionals. As the EU introduces new directives and policies as part of the ‘fit for 55’ package, ensuring a skilled workforce becomes crucial for their successful implementation. By addressing the skills gap through education, training, and the adoption of best practices, the building sector can accelerate the clean energy transition and contribute to the realisation of the EU Green Deal.
INZEB is honored to have Alice Corovessi, Vice-Chair President, Renovate Europe Campaign and Managing Director of INZEB, serving as the moderator for the panel discussion, bringing her extensive experience and knowledge to guide the conversation and facilitate constructive exchanges among the speakers and participants.
