Yesterday, 2 July 2026, we were very pleased to present the results of our project “Helping Homes Become Resilient in Climate-affected Greece” at the Town Hall of Mouzaki, Karditsa, following the field research conducted in the flood-affected areas of Thessaly.
Aiming to understand the real needs, experiences and expectations of affected populations, our research highlighted the loss of home as a central factor creating destabilisation and insecurity, the impact of prolonged temporary housing on community resilience, the reshaping of priorities after climate rauma, and the need for extended mental health support.
One of the most important moments was the screening of testimonies from residents of the affected areas, shedding light on the true impact that extreme weather events have on people’s daily lives.
Building on the research insights, we presented a set of policy recommendations covering the entire disaster management cycle, from prevention and preparedness to recovery and reconstruction, with the aim of supporting fairer and more effective public policies for protecting households.
We would like to express our graditute to everyone who supported our work in Thessaly, including the Municipality of Mouzaki, local stakeholders, and the citizens for sharing their valuable stories. In addition, we would like thank STAR Kentrikis Elladas for helping us spread the word as official media partner of the event!
The journey continues in Crete, where we will present the results of the field research conducted in the village of Arkalochori.
